John
Barnett oversees the overall administrative operations of the AAHC.
He earned a Bachelor of Art Degree in the field of Political Science
with a minor in African American Studies from Howard University
. He began his career working for the Corporation for National and
Community Service in Washington, D.C. in support of Senior Corps,
AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps*VISTA and AmeriCorps*NCCC programs on the
national level. After nine years working for the Corporation for
National and Community Service, he focused his attention to the
non-profit sector, working for P olicyLink in Oakland , California
, a national research and action institute that works collaboratively
to develop and implement local, state, and federal policies to achieve
economic and social equity.
As
a Portland native, he returned to Portland and began working at
Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing as the
Manager of Administrative Services, where he provided guidance to
over 300 employees including administrators, faculty, managers and
staff, on three campuses.
Mr.
Barnett is committed to promoting and improving wellness within
the
African-American community as a whole. He serves on the Board of
the North Northeast Business Association (NNEBA) and is committed
to providing a clear, consistent and influential voice for community
residents and businesses in North and Northeast Portland . Mr. Barnett
also serves as a mentor for African American youth in Northeast
Portland .
