Founded in 1989, the AAHC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors and managed by the President and CEO, Corliss McKeever, MSW.

From 1989 to 1997, the AAHC functioned as a volunteer coalition of individuals, agencies, and organizations working together to address the health issues of African Americans in North/Northeast Portland, Oregon. The AAHC became a non-profit organization in January 1998.

The work of the AAHC is undertaken with the firm belief that the key to promoting and improving health among African Americans is best achieved by interventions that build capacity in the community, and that strengthen, empower, and sustain healthy lifestyles among African Americans.

The AAHC recognizes the critical importance of community participation in the planning and implementation of health programs that meet the needs of African Americans and have lasting impact throughout Oregon. The AAHC works hard to accomplish its mission by fostering networks of trust and developing a sense of belonging among those we serve. Together, we can promote a powerful force for change!
