Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community
Health
The AAHC is a leader in Public Health and has partnered with
the African American community and local and state health departments, major
healthcare systems, heart association, kidney foundation, American Diabetes
Association, and participated in numerous federal state regional and local
initiatives for over 12 years.
AAHC has engaged over 20% of Multnomah County's
African American adult population (ages 18-64) in lifestyle change supporting
better cardio-vascular health outcomes. By attending these programs, thousands
of adults report that they substantially increased their knowledge of risk factors
for heart health, stroke, high blood pressure and diabetes; that they
have substantially increased amount exercise they get regularly and
increased their ability to manage heart health.
